I have also been involved in managing and supporting an alumni/school website, which has given me a practical understanding of the kind of everyday problems organisations face while managing their information — membership lists, fee collection, events, communication, and the reports someone always needs “by tomorrow”.
My approach is simple: first understand the existing work, then simplify it. Often that means starting with just one Excel sheet or one repetitive task, not replacing everything at once.
